J'can drug don to pay £3 million to UK court
published: Thursday | November 3, 2005

Deon P. Green, Gleaner Writer

LONDON, England:

JAMAICAN MILLIONAIRE drug dealer 39-year-old Lincoln White, who supplied almost all of Scotland's crack cocaine, has been ordered to hand over more than £3 million to the courts in the U.K. He was convicted of drug dealing and slapped with a 25-year prison sentence last year, but now faces a further six years behind bars unless he pays up.

According to the National Criminal Intelligence Service, White was "one of the top five criminals operating in the U.K." He imported cocaine through Panama, Guyana and Mexico, hiding the drug in shampoo bottles. He distributed crack cocaine across Britain, cutting out the middlemen to maximise profits.

EMPIRE WAS VALUED AT £170M

It is estimated that from September 1999 to March 2003 he imported 1.7 tonnes of cocaine into the United Kingdom. After converting the drug into crack his domestic couriers, who were well paid, supplied the whole of Britain. His empire was valued at £170 million.

The educated druggist lived an average lifestyle as he drove a Peugeot 205 and lived in a £1,000-a-month rented flat in east Dulwich, south London,

He was convicted of conspiracy at Kingston Crown Court, for importing and distributing the class 'A' drug.

During the 10-week trial Detective Chief Inspector Mick Ryan, who led the hunt for White, said the Jamaican was the biggest crack cocaine importer, manufacturer and distributor ever arrested in the U.K. "Over the year since his arrest, the amount of crack cocaine has definitely fallen," Ryan said.
