Saddened ex-cop
published: Tuesday | November 8, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM an ex-member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who now resides in Florida and pays special attention to criminal activities on the island.

Many of us here have been extremely surprised at the level of crime in Jamaica. It brings out a sense of sadness among us when this topic comes up for discussion.

DISGUSTED

I am so disgusted when my family tells me gunmen are walking in areas of Spanish Town daily with M-16s and AK-47s as if they are the security forces and nothing is being done about it. The security forces need to be given the support by politicians and the public so crime can be brought under control, even if criminals have to suffer the fate 'Bulbie' did. The time to take charge is now. Politicians who are found to be harbouring criminals and condoning criminal activities in their areas need to be charged as accomplices to these crimes.

I have supported the People's National Party (PNP) all my adult life. My family are all members of this party. However, I will not allow this to compromise my belief in law and order. This is not only a PNP problem, it is on both sides of the political fence. I know this from serving at Hunts Bay and CID headquarters. I had hoped it would have ended but it only got worse.

I am, etc.,
