KRAAL TRIAL: DAY 14 - 11-y-o witness no-show
published: Friday | November 18, 2005

THE PROSECUTION had to call other witnesses to testify yesterday because 11-year-old Shanice Stoddart failed to appear in the Home Circuit Court for further cross-examination.

The court waited for several minutes, but when Shanice, who was in the court building, did not appear, the prosecution called other witnesses.

Prosecutor Terrence Williams said yesterday that it was expected that the girl would continue her testimony when the trial resumes on Monday.

A 12-member jury has been hearing evidence since October 31 at the trial of Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams and the other five policemen charged with the murder of four civilians at Kraal, Clarendon, on May 7, 2003.

SPENT SHELLS

Yesterday, Lloyd Christie who was formerly employed to the Police Public Complaints Authority, testified that on May 16, 2003, and June 10, 2003, he went to Kraal and found a total of ten 5.56 spent shells.

He said on May 16, 2003, he found two spent shells on the floor under two beds in the house and four spent shells in the yard. On June 10, 2003, when he went back to Kraal to gather other evidence he found four spent shells in the yard at the back of the house. He took the spent shells to the Government Forensic Laboratory and handed them over.

Paul Byfield, a videographer with CVM Television said he went to Kraal about 8:00 p.m. to to 9:00 p.m. on May 7, 2003, and videotaped the crime scene. He said when he went there, he saw policemen in the house and one of them was taking photographs. An edited version of the tape was tendered in evidence.
