CLASSES RESUMED at three public schools yesterday, after they were forced to close their doors on Friday as a result of gun violence.
Checks made by The Gleaner yesterday revealed that classes were in session at the Jones Town Primary and Trench Town High schools in Kingston, and Seaforth High in St. Thomas.
Grace Smith, principal of Trench Town High School, told The Gleaner that a significant number of students and teachers had reported for classes.
AREA WAS TENSE
She said the area was tense but the police had assured the administration that police personnel would be patrolling the area.
The school's administration took the decision to suspend classes after an incident last Thursday when a gunman fired a bullet through the window of the
principal's office.
Seaforth also closed its doors last Friday after there was an upsurge of violence in the community.
Meanwhile, the recent incident at Wolmer's Girls' School, where a man went to the school fence enquiring about a student from the school who had been shot in Admiral Town last Thursday, has left the school community in fear.
The Gleaner understands that a car backfired near the school yesterday, frightening students who ran for cover.
