Sky's the limit for Carla
published: Friday | November 25, 2005

SOME SAY she is the next Tyra Banks, however, Carla Campbell prefers to make her own mark in the fashion industry. And what a mark it is. She is slowly becoming the yardstick of modelling success.

Tyra has left modelling behind and did her last runway walk at the Victoria's Secret show earlier this month, and it is undeniable that she left a huge gap in the industry. Those in the fashion industry say Carla, also a Victoria's Secret model, with an atypical model figure similar to Tyra's, is the obvious choice to replace the retired supermodel.

"I am definitely being put in the position right now to do that and I am happy when I see things falling into place," she said.

DREAM

"I've always wanted to be a Victoria's Secret model, but I don't want to be the next Tyra, but I want to be myself. I want them to say 'Oh look at Carla'. I want to make my own mark. I admire their work and everything, but I don't want to be seen as another Tyra," she said.

Carla also said though the two work in the same circle, interestingly enough, they have never had a conversation. "I've met her, like at parties and in those types of settings, but there has never been a one-on-one conversation with her," she explained.

Carla is now working on some 'top secret' projects she says, will catapult her career to another level.

"I am working on some projects right now that I can't talk about, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things should go my way. When it's complete, trust me, everyone will know about it," she said.

FEATURED IN TOP MAGAZINES

Carla, who was discovered when she entered the Pulse's Caribbean Model Search in 1997, has been featured on the covers of many top magazines ranging from SHE Caribbean to Esquire magazine, an eight-page spread in Cosmo. She says these projects are definite assets to land her both the 'secret projects' and future assignments.

"Everything just kinda happened from there (Pulse) and I can never say there has been a dull moment ... This is all I've wanted to do, and in this business, you always find people saying this and that, but I just intend on going forward because the sky is the limit," said Carla.
