MANDEVILLE PRIMARY'S Javed Gordon and Colombus Prep's Brittany Smith walked away with the top honours at fifth Alliance Investment Management National Prep and Primary Schools tennis competition at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre yesterday.

In a keenly contested boys' final, Gordon rallied his way past Ardenne Preparatory's Gamar Virgin 6-3 to lift the singles title for his team.

The also closely contested girls' final saw Smith edge her way past Althea Dunkley of Shiloh Primary 6-5. The event, which catered to the 11 and under age group, saw 108 children - 69 boys and 39 girls, from 25 Prep and Primary schools all over the island taking part.

The competition's preliminary rounds attracted an even bigger number with about 400 schools taking part in the event. Michael Chen, vice-president of Alliance Investment Limited, was pleased with the tournament turnout.

"This is the fifth tournament that we have been a part of and I am very impressed with the level of competition every year," Chen said.

"All the winners, coaches and Tennis Jamaica should be congratulated on a job very well done. We hope to continue to be a part of the programme next year," he said.
