Nashauna Drummond, Staff ReporterDuring Kingston Restaurant Week (KRW), eating out was really in. Hundreds of patrons took advantage of the opportunity to dine at some of Kingston's finest restaurants, enjoying delectable gourmet dishes at a fraction of the regular price.
Ambrosia
On Wednesday, The Sunday Gleaner's team went out to see who had come out to dine. Ambrosia had a full house with patrons sitting at the bar sipping patiently, waiting for their next available table. Some couldn't wait and had their meals right where they waited. The reason? Gary Peryer and 24 of his friends had arrived. And with a capacity for roughly 45 patrons, Peryer and his friends occupied more than half of the restaurant.
A huge table assembled at one end of the restaurant housed one of the largest eating parties Kingston has probably ever seen. Peryer said they were only there because it was KRW. They sent out an email to all their friends to join in the fun and they all accepted. The hardest part was tying everyone down to one convenient time. With babysitters in place and schedules cleared, everyone was finally mobilised for this night. They noted that most of them have never been to Ambrosia before and this was one of the few opportunities they would have to do so. KRW should be twice a year!
BOB'S CAFÉ
The newest kid on the culinary block, Bob's Café, was no longer a secret. Having opened its doors in April of this year, this unique restaurant was still relatively unknown to the Kingston populace. But during KRW, the secret was out and a constant stream of
customers flowed into 56 Hope
Road.
Located on the premises of the Bob Marley Museum, the menu boasts Bob's Café's signature fried and steam fish.
Proprietor Lenny Chen noted that business was good as customers now know that they exist. And, of course, every night he was there to check on his customers to see that everything went right. From all accounts, palates seem to have been satisfied.
