THE COMMUNITY of Hopewell in Hanover aims to boost its economy through the inaugural staging of the Hopewell Expo on December 9.
Ronald Campbell, Hopewell Expo's public relations officer told The Financial Gleaner on Tuesday that residents of the community are optimistic about its prospects, as Hopewell lies within the north coast economic zone and is a peaceful area with a low crime rate.
"We are very lucky to have such an environment that is favourable to business," said Mr. Campbell. "We have realised that small businesses can benefit if we get together to boost our production."
The first of its kind in the area, the expo, which bears the theme, "Marketing in the 21st Century and Beyond" will feature more than 30 booths showcasing financial services, educational institutions, food establishments, retailers and small business support schemes.
Exhibitors include National Housing Trust, HEART/Trust/NTA, Urban Development, Jamaica National, bMobile, National Health Fund, Churches Co-operative Credit Union, Avon the office of the Eastern Hanover Member of Parliament and Discount Automotive Parts.
The expo, is being organised and staged by New Tech Services, a two-year-old small business enterprise in Hopewell and is sponsored by Starfish Hotel, HOT 102 FM, No Problem Tours, Decameron Resort, Wright's Enterprise and Selective Auto Parts.
A highlight of the event will be an awards ceremony in which community leaders will be honoured for contributions in ground transportation and community development. Opposition Leader Bruce Golding will officially open the expo, which will be chaired by reigning Miss Hanover Festival Queen Ms. Paula Powell.
"The expo is highly anticipated by the community including the churches and ordinary citizens," Mr. Campbell added. "We have involved everyone in this event and we have tried to reach out to everyone."
