LIFE OF Jamaica (LoJ) continues to pledge its support to the Jamaica Under-16 Netball Team as the young Sunshine Girls bid to defend their title at the Caribbean Netball Championships to be held in St Kitts and Nevis from December 10-17.
In addition to $500,000 worth of sponsorship announced in October the company has now also donated uniforms and other gear.
In a press conference held at the LoJ building yesterday, corporate marketing vice president Karl Williams spoke of the company's continued commitment to the youth.
"We believe in the whole matter of youth and youth development and we welcome any opportunity that we have to assist them in maximising their potential and realising their ambitions. We are all for it," Williams said.
THE OPPORTUNITY
"When we saw this Under-16 team needing the support. A team that has never lost any of the championships it has participated in and we took the opportunity," he said.
Though the sponsorship has been specifically geared towards this campaign, Williams also announced plans to work with the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) with the hope of developing a long-term programme.
In responding to the sponsorship, JNA president Sharon Donaldson thanked the company for its support.
"Without LoJ's support it would have been far more difficult to prepare the team for the championships. The development of the Under-16 team is very important because it feeds the senior teams and I am sure that the girls will do us proud," Donaldson said.
The team, coached by captain of the national team Oberon Pitterson and managed by Arlene Findlay, leaves the island today for St Kitts and Nevis.
