Classical music request
published: Tuesday | December 13, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ with much interest Norma L. Perkins' letter of Wednesday, December 7, and would like to join her in asking the radio stations to play some of what is called 'Classical Music'.

I am not a classics connoisseur or any way near. I just find it much more enjoyable than what is being served up at this time. I also find it greatly improves my driving or indeed my concentration on anything I do while listening, without the constant jabbering or time checks that so many presenters seem to think we need.

It seems no one in Jamaica knows what background music is, as I have been to a few resorts around the island and they all appear to play the same ear-piercing boom, boom at anytime of day. At breakfast in one resort, the dancehall music that was being played would make a drunken sailor blush. Indeed, I overheard one visitor say to his companion "they are not very civilized; are they?"

I am etc.,

P. FOSTER
