St Jago girls dominate meet at Excelsior

ST. JAGO girls dominated proceedings at Saturday's Wesley Powell/Sports Plus/Busta development track and field meet held at Courtney Walsh Oval, Excelsior High.

St. Jago's dominance was highlighted with the top three finishers in three events - the Class One and Three 600m and Class Three 300m.

In the girls' Class Three 600m, Samantha Woodburn (1:43.7), Stacey-Ann Subani (1: 44.5) and Peta-Gaye Doyley (1:45.9) won for the Monk Street-based school.

In the Class One 600m, Doraine Samuels won in 1:42.7, ahead of Shanique Smikle (1: 44.6) and Mellissa Ogbourne (1:46.5).

The Class Three girls' 300m also produced all the top three places for St. Jago with Woodburn (42.5), Javene Bennett (42.9) and Yanique Rose (43.7) showing their class.

St. Jago also finished first and third in the girls' Class Three 150m thanks to Javene Bennett ( 19.1) and Tashana Francis (19.5). Pembrooke Hall's Shevel Brown was second in 19.4.

In the 300m Class One, St. Jago picked up first with Smikle (41.5) and third through Ogbourne ( 42.8). They also finished one-two in the 1000m through Samuels (3:11.3) and Subani (3:20.8).

St. Jago also won the girls' 4x400m title in 4:10.1 ahead of St. Andrew (4:21.8) and Glengoffe (4:40.40).

Meanwhile, on the day, which saw more than 25 schools compete in time final events on a 300m track, Miguel Forbes of Edith Dalton-James and Wolmer's Shelly-Ann Frater won the Class One boys' and girls' 150m titles respectively.

Forbes won his event in 16.80 seconds. Kemar Marsden of Wolmer's ( 17.00) and Clifton Allen of St. Andrew Technical (17.10) were second and third respectively.

Frater won her event in 18.9 seconds ahead of Simone Bell of Titchfield ( 19.7) and Jhanelle Brown of St. Jago (20.0).

Ann-Marie Minott of Camperdown won the girls' Class Two 300m in 43.1 seconds. Shelly-Ann Reynolds of Bog Walk took second in 43.3.

WOLMERS' SWEEP

Wolmer's dominated the Class Four boys' 150m with Duval Ashley ( 19.3), Nicholas Morsden (19.3) and Orlwell Maylor (19.4) claiming the medals.

Camperdown also took the three top places with Jamar Lawrence (1: 26.6), Rayon Lawrence (1:27.7) and Sandor Pennicott (1:27.9) in the boys' Class One 600m.

Edith Dalton-James' Ricardo Campbell (1:29.7) took the boys' Class 600m.

Home girl Termaine Gordon won the Class Three 150m in 17.0 seconds ahead of Camperdown's Cheuoughn Smith (18.10) and Huwain Johnson of Pembroke Hall (18.70).

Todea-Kay Willies of St. Andrew High took the girls' Class Two 150 in 19.5 seconds ahead of St. Jago's Sasha-Kay Mathias (19.6) and Carnellia Burke of Titchfield (19.9).

In the girls' Class One high jump, Dicoda Waugh of St. Andrew (1.50m) beat Glen-goffe's Kerry-Ann East (1.35m) and Saleena Green of St. Andrew High (1.40).
