Elusive justice
published: Saturday | December 24, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am deeply disturbed by the verdict handed down concerning the Kraal killings. The evidence was so clear that there was no shootout.

I truly believe that certain members of the now governing party support extrajudicial killings. It is not the first time that these type of killings have taken place in Jamaica. Anyone who thinks that these sort of killings can curb crime is making a sad mistake.

What is now being done by certain members of the police force who see themselves above the law will not only affect the poor and less fortunate of the ghetto, but sooner or later will affect even the more affluent among us.

What I see taking place in Jamaica today, I thought would only happen in some poor dictatorial police state. I have little confidence in the judicial system. Justice in Jamaica has become elusive and democracy is in jeopardy.

I am, etc.,
