ATLANTA, Georgia:
THE DEKALB county fire investigators in Atlanta, Georgia, yesterday said they plan to interview the Plummer family sometime next week in an effort to determine the cause of the fire that claimed three members of the family on December 22.
In an exclusive interview with The Gleaner, Captain Eric Jackson, public information officer for the DeKalb County Fire Department said he hoped the interview will not cause any emotional distress for family members in their time of grief. However, he said it was a necessary part of the the investigations as the authorities seek to determine the cause of the fire.
Captain Jackson, who attended the funeral service on Tuesday, said his team was looking at a "couple of things". He has however refused to divulge any details. He has promised to make a public statement only when all the facts are in place. He said investigators were working continuously at the site, still trying to follow up leads as it relates to the cause of the fire.
The three Jamaicans who perished in the fire three days before Christmas are Tracy Ann Plummer, age 37, her stepdaughter, Delia, eight, and son, Dijon II, seven years old.
They were laid to rest Tuesday, in the Kennedy Memorial Gardens, after a thanksgiving service attended by hundreds.
