SPANISH TOWN:
GOALS BY Derrick Planter and Oniel Smith resulted in a 1-1 scoreline in the NPL match between Rivoli and Harbour View at the Prison Oval yesterday.
The match, which was played before a fair-sized crowd, saw Rivoli win the early exchanges and take the game to their more fancied opponents.
They were buoyed by a 26th-minute free kick taken by Planter which found its way to the back of Harbour View net. The Rivoli supporter became vociferous but their urgings could not inspire another goal as the first half ended 1-0.
Upon resumption, Rivoli started to play defensively and Harbour View started to come into their own with skilful play from the like of Nicholas Dodd, Oneil Smith, Ricardo Smith and Luton Shelton.
SCORED HEADER
They won a corner in the 55th minute and Smith, left unmarked, scored with a header which effectively knocked the wind out of Rivoli who then started to quarrel among themselves.
Coach of Rivoli, Anthony Thomas, said his team lacked the will to win. "We have led teams on many occasions, however the killer instinct is just not with us and defensively I think we are weak and we have to work on that," Thomas said. "However, to draw is better than to lose the match and we will go forward with more purpose," he said.
Coach of Harbour View, Donovan Hayles, said his team should have won.
"We played too many back passes and and it took guts for us to rally. We needed the three points and I am disappointed," Hayles said.
