Roberts, George Phang released without charge
published: Saturday | December 31, 2005

POLICE YESTERDAY released Patrick Roberts and George Phang without charge. However, Mr. Phang's brother Andrew was bailed on a charge of murder.

All three were arrested on Monday in connection with the ongoing gang warfare in the south St. Andrew constituency which has claimed dozens of lives since Good Friday, last year.

Mr. Roberts is a founding member of Shocking Vibes Productions which manages several of the country's leading artistes, including Grammy winner Beenie Man.

George Phang, so-called area leader and People's National Party (PNP) activist, and his brother are long-standing pillars of the Jones Town community. Roberts hails from neighbouring Craig Town.

In a statement yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields insisted that the release of the men did not mean the end of operations in the Kingston Western Police Division and investigations concerning the three men.

PATROLS TO CONTINUE

He said high-visibility patrols and roadblock clearing would continue.

"These initiatives are designed to improve the quality of life of the residents, and give them the confidence to go about their lawful business without fear of being shot at or otherwise being intimidated by criminals," DCP Shields added.

He again appealed for members of the community to come forward with information.

Residents can call Operation Kingfish at 811 or DCP Shields' Hotline at 882-5190.
