CABLE AND Wireless (Jamaica) Limited (CWJ) is Jamaica's only full service telecom-munication provider and in recent months the new management team has sought to leverage this strength through a series of initiatives.
In particular, the prices for CWJ's high-speed Internet service were slashed 40 per cent in July. This is consistent with the company's strategy to attract an additional 50,000 broadband customers by next March.
CWJ also converted to a single calling rate for its fixed line service effective October 1, 2005, which industry observers expect to yield approximately 15 per cent more revenues from that business segment.
Another initiative undertaken by CWJ was to reduce the rates to call other networks by an average 47.5 per cent.
CWJ further intends to spend close to $125 million in to market is services in coming quarters.
These activities together with its efforts to tighten cost and rationalise operations augur well for improved company earnings in the coming year. This should further complement CWJ's attractive price-to-book value and price-earnings ratios.
