Deep class bias in Jamaica
published: Monday | January 2, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

NCU PRESIDENT Dr. Herbert Thompson's scathing repudiation of criminal dons, roadblocks and dancehall seems to reflect the deep class bias that exists in this society. Maybe this is one of the root causes of the societal regression that concerns Dr. Thompson.

Many current and ex-heads of financial institutions and private corporations are no different from the criminal dons that Dr. Thompson speaks about. Cut the hypocrisy Dr. Thompson. Look how many persons in the financial sector have robbed their clients. Do you know of any that are behind bars or have been blown away?

POOR MRS MILLER

Dr. Thompson should also question the connection of political parties and private corporations. It is no secret that corporations fund the political parties. Do you think that this is for free, Dr. Thompson?

Class seems to be a dominant feature of what is called a Christian society. Poor Mrs. Portia Simpson Miller is swimming against the heavy tides of colour, class and gender, in a society that is predominantly black.

I am, etc.,
