Spring courting overseas interests
published: Wednesday | January 4, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

LYN

WITH EIGHT day's gone and 16 left in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) transfer window, trading continues to be slow so far. But behind the scenes, coaches and managers continue to look for and negotiate the best possible deals for a final push of the 2005-2006 season.

If Constant Spring's Maurice 'Danny' Lyn has his way, the NPL's 12th place team could be greatly changed before the transfer window closes on the 20th of this month.

"I am in negotiations with a couple of players that have shown interest right now. We are still in talks but nothing has been finalised as yet," he remarked.

Veteran striker Walter Boyd is expected to be a part of this changing landscape. The 34-year-old, who has not donned the jersey of the club since one match early in the first round, has recently been rumoured to be planning a move away from the club.

LOOKING OVERSEAS

However, Lyn may also be looking overseas in an attempt to bolster his squad for what may be a rugged relegation battle.

"I have spoken to quite a number of players and in fact, believe it or not, to even a few overseas players, but I have not gotten any official commitment yet," he said.

Meanwhile, Arnett Gardens are also looking to boost their stocks after a below par season thus far, with the likely addition of Portmore United's ace striker Kevin Deerr.

According to Arnett Club president Patrick Roberts, Deerr has expressed an interest in playing for the club, but there has been no terms agreed to as yet.

"He had expressed an interest in representing the club but we have not contacted him to confirm it since the transfer window has opened, we don't know for a fact that he is still interested," Roberts stated.

Deerr, who received the Wray and Nephew Player of the Year honours last season, has so far been Portmore's leading scorer this season with six goals.

Roberts also flatly denied rumours that have been in circulation regarding Arnett starting keeper Julian McLeish signing with league leaders Harbour View.

"There is no truth to that rumour. I think it stemmed from the fact that they expected me to leave the club, but I assured them that I will be here until at least the end of the season," indicated Roberts.
