SutherlandWORLD JUNIOR Championships bronze medallists Sonita Sutherland and Sherene Pinnock are among more than 2,000 athletes confirmed for today's WATA/JC track meet, the first meet on the 2006 Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) calendar.
Sutherland, of Holmwood Technical, Pinnock of Edwin Allen, along with St. Jago's World Youth silver medallist, Natasha Ruddock, and Carifta Games gold medallist Alain Bailey of Kingston College, are among athletes from more than 70 schools expected to be on show.
Meanwhile, Boys' and Girls' Champs winners, KC and Holmwood, head the teams confirmed.
Wolmer's and JC are the other top boys' schools while Edwin Allen, St. Jago and Manchester are the big girls' schools.
The meet is also open to teams as well as individuals from clubs and institutions from all over Jamaica in team or individual categories.
The events to be contested are: 100m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 300m for female, 500m for male, 70m hurdles, 80m hurdles, 100m hurdles and 110m hurdles.
The field events are long jump, discus, high jump, shot put and pole vault.
A maximum of six competitors per class, per team and per event will be allowed. All teams are requested to wear their regular competition colours.
WATA/JC will again be awarding individual trophies to the most outstanding performers.
Coaches of outstanding teams will also be rewarded with weekends for two at an all-inclusive hotel.
This year, the WATA/JC meet will honour Warren Williams for his contribution to Jamaica College's tremendous success in track and field and other sports.
