That Newton Amos statement
published: Tuesday | January 10, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

SSP NEWTON Amos' statement on television in prime time news (TVJ) may be viewed as reaching the zenith of profundity. The gentleman is outright loyal to his country and is bent on doing this country a plethora of good in helping to rid (using all the resources he can muster) this country of seasoned, defiant and ultra-callous criminals.

A thunder ball of reality, truth and frankness shattered my mental fortitude. Momentarily, flames of shock, despondency and depression sparked when SSP Amos said that some of the best lawyers in this country defend some of the worst criminals. Does that statement speak to ethical, moral, humanitarian or political issues? Is it one, some or all of the above?

Oh, what excruciating mental and emotional pain SSP Amos and other such crime fighters frequently bear when well-known heartless, prolific performers of blatant evil deeds walk free with arrogantly orbiting heads, pronounced sneers, projected chests and triumphant feet of evil. The host of witnesses cheer on the newly made or rejuvenated heroes. Most sadly, they themselves are recurring victims. Such, however, is the devastating effect of deep-rooted and prevalent illiteracy.

I am, etc.,
