SANTIAGO (AP): SOCIALIST MICHELLE Bachelet, a former political prisoner, won Chile's presi-dential election yesterday to become the country's first woman leader and extend the rule of the country's market-friendly centre-left coalition.

UNITED STATES: Military strike on Iran still an option
WASHINGTON (Reuters): REPUBLICAN AND Democratic senators said yesterday the United States may ultimately have to undertake a military strike to deter Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, but that should be the last resort.
