Manchester sound early warning
published: Wednesday | January 18, 2006

CALVERT

MANCHESTER HIGH signalled an early warning to Girls' Champs contenders Holmwood, St. Jago, Vere and Edwin Allen that they will be a force to reckon with this season.

Though they may not have the right ammunition to win Champs, especially with little or no strong field events competitors, Manchester dominated last Saturday's JAAA/Puma Development Track Meet at Kirkvine in Manchester.

Holmwood Technical, Edwin Allen High and Vere Technical, who welcomed back the return of Sharnetta Stewart, also did well.

Manchester, led by Deneisha Morris (25.2), Shana-Gaye Tracey (25.4), Lesie-Ann Mitchell (25.6) and Lori-Ann Simpson (25.6) dominated the Class Three girls' 200m.

Manchester High again picked up first, second and third in the girls' 400m Class Three with Shana-Gaye Tracey (57.5), Natoya Goule (58.6) and Denesha Morris (59.2).

Orenthia Bennett (26.0) and Chevanese Pinnock (26.5) gave Manchester a one-two finish in the girls' Class Four 200m.

Manchester's Judith Riley (25.1) and Chenae Williams (25.2) finished third and fourth respectively behind the Edwin Allen pair of Naffene Briscoe (24.6) in the Class Two 200m.

Edwin Allen's Kimberley Smith (24.9) defeated Vere's Indiera Spence (25.0) in the Class One 200m.

Holmwood's Romel Lewis (21.7) beat Ardenn's Kevin Williams (22.1) in the boys' Class One 200m, while Jamie Davis (22.7) and Kemar Richardson (22.7), both of Holmwood, topped Class Two.

St. Jago's pair of Patrick Owens (25.2) and Jovan Williams (25.4) took top honours in the boys' Class Four 200m. Munro's Rolando Reid (23.8) won the Class Three equivalent.

In the 1500m Class One, Manchester's Neisha Morgan (4:46.70) finished second behind Vere's Teneisha Davis (4:44.40). Holmwood's Vanessa Boyd (5.09.40) won in Class One.

In Class Three, Edwin Allen with Sharlene Nickle (5.03.80) and Shantare Roberts (5.07.10) took the top two spots, while Conroy Crossman of Edwin Allen (4.24.10) won the boys' Class Two 1500m. Kamar Ellis of St. Jago (4.21.90) took Class One race.

Holmwood's Schillonie Calvert and Vere's Sharnetta Stewart shared the Class One 400m title in 55.7.

In the Class Two 400m, Kay-Ann Robinson of Vere (58.1) won, while Vere's Stacey Bell (10.33.40) took the 3000m crown.

Holmwood's pair of Mekel Downer (50.9) and Stafford McFarlane (51.0) won the boys' Class One 400m, while Bellefield's Jerome Robinson (52.3) and Rhojel Winters of St. Jago (54.6) were victorious in Classes Two and Three respectively.
