Maverley look to extend Super League lead
published: Saturday | January 28, 2006

Howard Walker,

MAVERLEY/HUGENDEN WILL look to extend their lead atop the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association's (KSAFA) Super League with a win over struggling Rae Town in one of six games today.

In the other games on: Santos host Shortwood at the Bell Chung Oval; Mountain View welcome Barbican at Excelsior High School; JDF travel to the Bull Pen to play Bull Bay; August Town versus Meadhaven at the UWI Bowl, Field #2 and Greenwhich Town take on Police National.

Maverley lead the table on 18 points, one ahead of Meadhaven United and will want to widen the gap while hoping that their closest rivals drop valuable points.

They should get maximum points from Rae Town who are second from bottom on six points.

The David Hunt-led Mead-haven on 17 points, have a difficult away game at sixth-placed August Town on 14 points and can't afford to slip up.

Last year's beaten finalists and 10th-placed Bull Bay on eight points, will want to ambush the fifth-placed "Marching Men" of the JDF on 15 points, a tricky encounter at the Bull Pen.

SANTOS THIRD

Former champions Santos, lying third on 16 points should get maximum points from Shortwood, who are rooted to the bottom of the table on four points.

Only a point separate seventh and eighth placed teams Barbican on 10 points from Mountain View in a game that could go either way.

Last year's Major League champion, Police National, on 16 points are currently lying in fourth position but could be upstaged by the inconsistent Greenwhich Town on nine points.

In Major League action, leaders Duhaney Park on 18 points host struggling Elletson Flats third from bottom on six points.

Second-placed Cavalier on 17 points, still recovering from their whipping by premier league outfit Reno in the Red Stripe Champion Cup, should get the better of Rockfort at Cement Oval.

Third place Pembrooke Hall on 14 points play Cooreville Gardens at Pembrooke Hall School; fourth-placed Olympic Gardens hosts cellar team Whitfield Town at Cling Cling Oval; Real Mona tackle Brown's Town at Buttercup Park and Central Kingston host Molynes United at Winchester Park.
