Manchester girls continue dominance

MANCHESTER HIGH School girls dominated the fifth annual Queen's/Grace Jackson Track & Field Meet held at the Stadium East complex on Saturday.

As they did at the Puma/JAAA Development Meet at Kirkvine two weeks ago, Manchester took three top places in the girls' Class Three and Four 200m events.

In the Class Three, the trio of Denesha Morris (24.45), Michelle Nunez (24.67) and Leslie-Ann Mitchell (25.42) outclassed their rivals.

Orenthia Bennett (25.4), Chevanese Pinnock (25.8) and Shay-Ann Holness (26.3) shone brighter than their teammates in Class Four.

Also, Manchester's Stephanie Simpson (24.95) beat the Queen's pair of Crystal Wilson (25.12) and Melony McKay (25.68) for the Class One girls' 200m title.

Shana Gay Tracy (43.80) won the girls' 300m hurdles, Neisha Morgan (2:15.2) took the 800m Class Two, Sashaka Palmer (59.2) won the Class Three 400m, while Judith Riley (62.70) finished as the top schoolgirl in the 400m hurdles.

RELAYS

The team from Mandeville also had things their way in the relays. They finished first and second in the girls' 4x100m Class Three in 46.96 seconds and 48.45 respectively. Immaculate were third in 49.03.

In Class Two, Manchester were timed in 47.49 ahead of St. Andrew (47.87) and Glenmuir (49.96), while the Class Four girls combined for 49.85 to beat Queen's (50.98) and St. Andrew (51.81).

Manchester's 4x400m team also ended the meet as the top schoolgirl team, though they finished behind the University of Technology (UTech)/MVP quartet.

In other events, Holmwood's Anastasia Le-Roy won the girls' Class One 400m in 55.28, beating her teammate Schillonie Calvert (55.61) and Queen's Wilson (57.47).

Kewesi Wint of St. Jago (13.44m) beat Morant Bay's Dean Swimmer (13.27m) for the boys' Under-17 triple jump title, while Kenneth Sylvester of Racers Track Club (15.33m) beat EXED's Delroy Salmon (14.36m) for the open crown.

Ashani Mitchell of Wolmer's (53.1) beat Bridgeport's Marlon Thompson (53.5) for the 400m boys' Class Three title. Jason Fraser of Wolmer's (56.20) beat G.C. Foster's Damion Rowe (57.15) in the 400m hurdles open.

Kingston College's (KC) Leford Green (47.90) won the boys' Class One 400m over Teo Bennett of Jamaica College (JC) (48.40) and Camperdown's Remaldo Rose (48.90).

Jamaica College (43.9) and (46.6) won the boys' 4x100m for Class Two and Three respectively. Edith Dalton James (44.4) were second in Class Two and Morant Bay (47.6) finished second in Class Three.

Camperdown won the Class One event in 42.0 seconds over JC (43.6), while Queen's took the girls' Class One race.
