Meadhaven overtake Santos
published: Monday | February 6, 2006

THE DING-dong race for the leadership in the Jamaica National/KSAFA Super League continued on the weekend with Santos being surpassed by Meadhaven United at the top of the standings.

Meadhaven, who started the weekend on 18 points, one behind leaders Santos, jumped to 21 points after a 2-0 win over Maverley/Hughenden as the curtains came down on round one of the competition.

Santos, meanwhile, lost 1-0 to Bull Bay at Bell/Chung Stadium, but are still in striking distance of the leaders as they remained on 19 points.

Maverley-Hughenden's loss though mean that they remain static in third on 18 points, the same as Police National who took a point off Rae Town in their fixture which drew 3-3.

August Town, also on 18 points, returned to winning ways after a 1-0 win over Greenwich Town, while Mountain View (13 points) did their cause no harm after beating Shortwood United 1-0.

Meanwhile, a win for the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) would have put them jointly in second place on 20 points, but they shared points with Barbican at Up Park Camp in a goalless draw and were only able to earn a point which moved them to 17.
