THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE JAMAICA Constabulary Force (JCF) needs to build a new image in 2006 so that visitors and Jamaicans alike can see that institution in a more positive light.
The recent and timely instructions given by Prime Minister Patterson and the transfer to new police headquarters to be located on Duke Street in Kingston will be a morale booster to the JCF and the general public.
Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas, along with his chief officer will no doubt be in a better working environment and therefore more comfortable.
It is heartening at this time that the new facilities will include a command and control centre equipped with modern technology to coordinate operations across Jamaica.
Prime Minister Patterson must be commended for his hindsight at this crucial time when crime and violence are crippling the nation.
At the same time, the national security ministry is also on track with the creation of the police civilian oversight authority which will be in operation soon and is expected to contribute to the rebuilding of public confidence in the police force.
I am, etc.,
