published: Thursday | February 9, 2006

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

SCHOOLBOY CRICKET batting record holder Schacoya Thomas of Eltham scored his second century of the 2006 Grace Shield Premier League against Calabar yesterday.

Thomas, who scored the highest individual score of 324 not out in schoolboy cricket last season, made an undefeated 115 not out yesterday to lead Eltham to 216 for one.

In his innings, which was laced with 14 fours and one six, Thomas pushed his season's tally to 408 runs in five matches.

He has only been dismissed once, for zero against Meadowbrook, but has good scores of 165 against Ardenne, 75 against Spanish Town and 53 against Tivoli.

Matthew Stewart, with 56, was the next best scorer for Eltham.

In reply, Calabar were struggling at 15-6 when they forfeited the game because of violence in Spanish Town. Omaine Duncan (3-5) and Errol Marsh (3-8) took the wickets.

Meanwhile, Spanish Town's Junior McKenzie scored a century, 103, but his team and Excelsior played to a draw at Courtney Walsh Oval yesterday.

Spanish Town made 195 against Courtney Walsh Jr. 3-48, Colin Thompson (2-35) and Oneil Dixon (2-39). In reply, Excelsior were 143 for five when bad light stopped play.

Dushane Nicholson hit 43. At Monk Street, Meadowbrook suffered their first defeat in five matches when they went down to St. Jago by eight wickets. Meadowbrook were blown away for 55 five minutes after the first water break with Oneil Wright (5-13) and Aaron Daley (3-29) taking the bulk of the wickets. St. Jago replied with 59-2.

Wright, 24 not out, and Javoghn Harris, 21, led the way for St. Jago, who stretched their unbeaten run to four.
