Michael Manley Foundation welcomes UWI centre
published: Friday | February 10, 2006

MICHAEL MANLEY

The Michael Manley Foundation has welcomed the announcement of the establishment of the Michael Manley Centre for Global Dialogue, to be located within the Institute of Caribbean Studies on the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies.

Reacting to the announcement made recently by Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, the foundation said the centre is a "fitting testament to Michael Manley for the pioneering role he played in regional politics on behalf of the countries of the Third World. His commitment to the cause of regionalism, and articulation of the manifest inequalities of the global economic system provided the platform for his advocacy of non-alignment, and the engaging approach to the building of South-South cooperation."

"We anticipate that the Centre for Global Dialogue will promote not only the academic side of Manley's work, but make reference to the practical manifestations, and analyse its effects on the politics of change," said Danny Roberts, chairman of the Michael Manley Foundation.
