FALMOUTH, Trelawny:
THE 51ST renewal of the annual Hague Agricultural Show was launched on Tuesday at the Hague Primary School in Trelawny, under the theme, 'Promoting Local Production for Healthy/ Wealthy Lifestyle'.
With a budget of $3 million, a 20 per cent increase over last year, Delroy Anderson, committee chairman, believes the standard of the show will be enhanced.
He said, "Despite the very active weather system, there will be an increase in the amount of produce (on display), highlighting yam and vegetables, and especially their by-products." He also added that the goat exhibition would also be expanded.
Mr. Anderson said the show would continue to emphasise the need for Jamaicans to eat local produce.
ENTERTAINMENT
Rising Stars winner, Christopher Martin, Voicemail and Gyptian will entertain the thousands of patrons who are expected to attend on Ash Wednesday.
Some other highlights will include a section dedicated to the development of the backyard garden by the Rural Agricultural Development Authority, the livestock and branch competitions, and the crowning of the farm queen.
The Hague Agricultural Show is surpassed by only the Denbigh Agricultural Show in popularity.
