Women's Six-a-Side league kicks off March 3
published: Saturday | February 11, 2006

THE WESTERN Hotels Sports Association will for the first time since 2001-2002 coordinate the All-Island Hotels Six-a-Side women's football league.

The competition is scheduled to kick off on March 3 at Drax Hall with Hedonism III hosting Beaches Boscobel Resort and Golf Club. Match time is 4.00 p.m.

Buoyed by the recent success of the Junior Reggae Girls, who placed fourth in the CONCACAF World Cup Under-20 playoffs, the association decided to re-introduce the league.

HOLDING DISCUSSIONS

"We are currently holding discussions with two well-known companies for the possibility of joint sponsorship of the competition," stated Robert Paul, first vice- president of the association.

He said he was confident that at least one of the companies would take on the sponsorship.

Fourteen hotels have indicated their intention to participate but, according to Sefton Lawrence, senior competitions coordinator for the association, at least 20 hotels should be confirmed by the time the fixtures are finalised on February 23.

Some hotels which have expressed interest include Beaches Negril Resort and Spa, Couples Negril, Sandals Negril Beach Resort and Spa, Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, the Tryall Hotel, Sandals Montego Bay and Grand Lido Braco Resort and Spa.
