St Andrew seal spot in final
published: Saturday | February 11, 2006

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

ST. ANDREW High School stormed their way into the final of the Jamaica Hockey Federation/Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association final after a 2-1 win over Immaculate at the Mona Hockey Turf yesterday.

Starting the day in second place behind Excelsior, St. Andrew needed to win to keep their position ahead of Wolmer's Girls and The Convent of Mercy Academy, Alpha.

St. Andrew were able to achieve just that with goals from Ebony McLean and Danielle Brown, nullifying Kimberly McInson's lone strike.

In the day's other game, Wolmer's Girls clipped Alpha in an enthralling 4-3 encounter, where players from both teams scored braces.

Shanaye Armstrong got onto the scoresheet twice for Wolmer's, while Alpha's national player Crystal Reid found the back of the net on two occasions as well.

LONE STRIKE

Alpha's Renee Dempster made things interesting with her lone strike, but she had to watch haplessly as Naifa Murray and Keisha-Gaye Walker scored goals that made the difference for the opposition.

The result really didn't mean much because of St. Andrew's victory.

That win took St. Andrew to an unassailable 13 points and a certain meeting with the waiting Excelsior, who are the token favourites.

While the result of the Alpha/ Wolmer's clash was merely of statistical importance, it gave a lovely precursor to the third place play-offs.

With Wolmer's ending their season in third and Alpha ending fourth, the two teams will battle for a single medal placing on Monday in part two of their battle.
