published: Saturday | February 11, 2006

LEVY

THE HARPER Miller Oval in Nief Mountain, south-east St. Elizabeth should be buzzing with non-stop action tomorrow as the NCB knockout cricket final will take centre stage.

With the likes of regional youth players Shane Powell, Donovan Sinclair, Ziggy Levy, David Powell, Marlon Johnson and Boris Hutchinson expecting to feature for Comma Pen, along with Bruce Black-wood, Gary Bromfield, Graham Bromfield, Damian Bryce and Jason Nelson in Ballards Valley's line-up, fireworks are expected.

Former national senior team player Orville Pennant, Troy Powell and Gary Graham are three other hard-hitting batsmen in Comma Pen's super line-up.

The winner of the final will walk away with the NCB Trophy and $100,000 while the beaten finalists will pocket $45,000.

PRIZES

The Most Disciplined team will take home the Witter's Hardware Tro-phy and $10,000 while the MVP of the final will collect $3,000.

There are $2,500 prizes for most runs, most wickets, most sixes, best five-wicket haul, best fielder and best wicketkeeper.

Member of Parliament Len Blake, Black River's Mayor Franklin Witter, national chairman of selectors Ruddy Wil-liams and renowned cricket journalist Tony Becca are the high-profilemen expected to watch the day's event.

In last week's semi-finals, Ballards defeated Todd Town by four wickets while Comma Pen advanced on a faster run-rate over Cheapside.

Todd Town first made 179 with Con-roy Miller getting 50 not out while Damion Turner (4-51) and Courtney Nembhard (2-32) returned the best figures for Ballards.

In reply, Ballards compiled 180 for six with Andre Bryce's 82 not out leading the way.

In the other semi-final played at Ballards Valley, Cheapside first made 219 with Wayne Cuff, 61, scoring most runs. Cyan Dyer claimed 4-29.

Chasing 220 for victory, Comma Pen were 156 in 21 overs when rain stopped play. Ziggy Levy, 41, and Orville Pennant, 36, scored the most runs against Stephon Patterson 2-40.

Twelve teams All Century, Ballards Valley Youth Club, Cheapside, Chocolate Hold Youth Club, Comma Pen, Dalton, Lititz South Ridge, Lovers Leap, Rising Star, Todd Town, Top Hill, Uprising took part in this season's competition.
