Get ready for a Reality TV show that's like no other you've seen, Jamaica!Between March and April 2006, four Jamaicans who are pursuing wellness in some aspect of their lives will become regular visitors to your living room, via the TV screen, as they engage in the Jamaica Wellfest Wellness Challenge and will, through their efforts, perhaps encourage others to begin their own journey toward wellness.
The Jamaica Wellfest Wellness Challenge is a key addition to build-up activities towards the mounting of the Caribbean's largest wellness festival Jamaica Wellfest 2006. It is designed to educate and spread the message of the importance of wellness in all aspects of a person's life.
So, meet 'Jack' the workaholic who, although he has achieved some level of economic independence, has forgotten the importance of fun and exercise and needs to put some balance back into his life.
But it's not just 'Jack' who may need wellness. It may also be 'Jane' the person who can't stop spending or who hoards everything earned, 'Jim', who is struggling with such chronic shyness that it has a devastating impact on his ability to socialise, or 'Jill', that young person who is just leaving the nest, is riddled with doubts and disguises it as rampant partying. They all need balance in their lives. And so long as they have the will to get well, they are all ideal candidates for the Wellfest Wellness Challenge.
As Elaine Wint, a director of WHOLE Ltd. explains, holistic wellness is a complete balance of the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental elements of being a person. These parts of the person, she says, are pulled and pushed by work, social life, diet, friends, family and love. Thus, achieving wellness is learning to balance these attributes that contribute to the whole person.
"This reality TV show is therefore about persons looking to make a lifestyle change; they will not be competing against each other, but honing their own ability to achieve whatever goals they have set themselves. It is a challenge of willpower and a test of commitment, and by showcasing their efforts on national TV, Wellfest will fulfil another objective of offering the assistance of experts to the wider Jamaican population who may not normally be able to afford such services," she adds.
So, how exactly will the 'Wellness Challenge' work? Well, WHOLE Ltd., organisers of Jamaica Wellfest and its supporting activities, has already put out the call for potential 'challengers' to submit a 200 word application, explaining why they believe they are at the point where they must adjust their lifestyles for their own good - and why they feel they are perfect candidates for the show. Based on this, the most promising participants will be short-listed and then interviewed by the panel of experts who will be tracking the progress of the four who will, ultimately, become the challengers.
The individual who has shown the most progress over the 21-day in which the Wellness Challenge will be conducted will be rewarded with a prize package during the weekend of the 2006 Jamaica Wellfest Festival.
