Zone A semis to be decided this week
published: Saturday | February 18, 2006

THE SEMI-finalists from Zone A in the southeast Clarendon cricket competition will be decided this weekend.

In two rescheduled matches, New Town (six points) will today tackle Sandy Bay, who also have six points, while Mitchell Town (six) face Sandy Bay tomorrow. Both matches will be played at Vere.

In last week's action, an undefeated century of 116 by Allan Reid, carried Sandy Bay to a 176-run victory over Portland Cottage.

Reid's ton, together with Hubert Morgan's 51 and Collis Johnson's 40, enabled Portland Cottage to close their innings at 315 for seven.

Kevin Walters took 2-36 and Lynval Hope 2-60.

When Portland Cottage replied, Headley Henry claimed 4-21 and Devon Gordon 3-36 to bowl out the losers for 139. Lerone Coleman got 51.

In Zone B, Lionel Town recorded their first win as they upset Corn Piece by 61 runs. Lionel Town first made 285-5, thanks to half centuries from Calvert Whittick, 87, and Keron Thomas, 62, as they shared a second-wicket stand of 177.

George Cousins took 3-52 and Damion Johnson 2-57. Corn Piece, who needed to win to secure second place and a semi-final spot behind Vere Sports Club (10 points), fell short and were dismissed for 224 runs, despite solid scores of 71 each from Sean Smith and Lionel McDowell.

Keron Thomas took 5-35 and Tavari Green 4-40.
