Well done, C&WJ
published: Sunday | February 19, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WISH to commend Rodney Davis, CEO of Cable and Wireless, for being the philanthropist he is. That man is not only bright, but knows how to plumb the regions of human psyche. I have always said even via this paper, that we need to reward heroic deeds and good behaviour - that is the main way to lift a people from using bad as an example.

A TESTIMONY TO HIS MIND SET

His quick response in rewarding little Jevaughn Francis for his heroic deed is a testimony to his mind set. Pity he has no ambitions in politics; he would surely get me to vote. His treatment of the child is now going to prompt all children Jevaugh's age and older to do heroic things, because it is rewarding; they do not need a gun don as a hero anymore, and there are many heroes in the ghetto, I can tell you, especially among the boys.

Corporate Jamaica should have been doing this a long time ago; it took a relatively young, bright man, who studied abroad (is he Jamaican?) to set the stage for things to come. See what he is doing with Cable & Wireless! Over the years, our young men have performed many brave deeds, such as rescuing cars and occupants from rivers in spate, flooding gullies etc. One thing that makes America great is its love for heroism, they too reward their heroes.

We do not have to wait on government to reward anyone for anything, certainly not the type of governments we have had in this country. They would want to keep us down (especially those in the inner city) so that they can be used to fight elections and politics for them to take centre place.

God bless you richly Mr. Davis; you are a hero yourself, because it takes a hero to know one.

I am, etc.,

JM FLETCHER
