THE CONSTABULARY Communication Network (CCN) says that seven persons were murdered on the weekend.
Four of these murders were committed in St. Catherine.
According to the CCN, on Sunday morning, just after midnight, 30-year-old Dave Sinclair of Three West in Greater Portmore, was killed when three men, two of whom were armed, held up the Toyota Hiace minibus in which he was travelling. It is understood that the gunmen, after robbing the passengers of jewellery and cash, opened fire, hitting Mr. Sinclair. The robbers then made their escape.
In Capture Lands, Old Harbour Villa, the body of 60-year-old Samuel McIndoe was found with gunshot wounds in the community at about 6:30 Saturday morning.
In Green Acres, Spanish Town, a 20-year-old man, Ryan Smith, was shot and killed by a gunman on Taylor Road in Dovecot on Friday night about 8:50 while riding his motorcycle. Smith died while undergoing treatment at the Spanish Town Hospital.
Also 38-year-old Fabian McCallum of Berwick district, Riversdale, St. Catherine, was shot dead by a group of gunmen while walking on the Berwick main road. A 30-year-old woman who was walking with Mr. McCallum was also shot and injured.
Meanwhile, in the Corporate Area, two men were murdered.
The first murder occurred on Friday night when 36-year-old Wayne Palmer, otherwise called 'Wayne Pooh', was shot and killed on Lynford Avenue, Kingston 10, about 10:05 p.m. by two men on bicycles. Palmer died on the spot.
In Arnett Gardens, the burnt body of an unidentified male was found in a gully in the community on Saturday morning at about 4:00. According to the CCN, residents of the community saw flames coming from a gully in the community and alerted the police. The man's age has not been ascertained and the CCN says the post-mortem conducted by the government pathologist has proved inconclusive.
In St. Elizabeth a 40-year old man was chopped to death with a machete during a dispute with another man in the Williamsfield District on Saturday morning about 4:20 during a dispute. The dead man has been identified as George Salmon of Mountain View Avenue, Kingston 2. The police say they are searching for Glen Jones who they believe can assist them in their investigations.
No arrests have been made in any of the homicides.
