THE EDITOR, Sir:
It was six days before the selection of the president of the People's National Party and Prime Minister of Jamaica. I went to bed after a sumptuous meal too much to mention. I started to dream. I dreamt a major press conference was called by the four candidates; all the media houses were there, including BBC and CNN.
The press conference was held at the party headquarters. All four candidates sat at the table, everyone waited with bated breath, each candidate spoke for three minutes. The party leader walked in, he had a document in his hand and he began to read: "Comrades, I am hereby directed under the signatories of the candidates to inform you that they have decided to withdraw their candidacy in support of one candidate. That candidate will lead the party in the next election." The party leader went on, "We are solidly behind this candidate and will give the fullest support. Comrades, that candidate is ... just as he was about to announce the name, my cellphone rang, it was a comrade.
It was all a dream.
I am, etc.,
