A GOAL by Fabian Dawkins in the 59th minute carried Village United to a 1-0 win over Arnett Gardens in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League encounter at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.
However, their coach Michael Tulloch who is facing the axe following the mid-week sacking of the team's other coach, Jerome Waite, was adamant he won't resign. This is contrary to a stance he took just days earlier.
"I won't run and leave the youths. If they find a coach and say Mr. Tulloch go I'll move on just the same," he said. "It's a challenge and you just have to stand up to it."
Play was evenly contested in the first half with both teams trying to feel out each other without much success as the first half meandeared to a goalless finish.
On the resumption, both teams started to play more purposefully but Village appeared stronger with several attacks on goal by Dawkins, Athol Franklin and Teofore Bennett. However, they were kept at bay by stout defending from Arnett, led by captain Gerald Neil.
SKILFUL DISMISSAL
Things would change when Dawkins skilfully dismissed his markers and let fly a vicious right footer that gave the goalkeeper no chance.
The goal effectively silenced the home supporters of Arnett for a while, but they had reason to shout, albeit while denouncing their own during the remainder of the game in which both teams got chances to score but fell victim to faulty finishing.
One of the main culprits was Arnett's Gregg Taylor who got two 'sitters' in short order but failed to score and his team suffered.
Tulloch said indiscipline caused their demise.
"We gave Fabian (Davis) too much chance and he capitalised, we need to go back to the drawing board and plan for the other games to come."
