Business sector reactions
published: Tuesday | February 28, 2006

TWO DAYS after her victory in the People's National Party (PNP) presidential election, the major players in the business community have offered congratulations and promises of support to PNP President-elect and Prime Minister-designate, Portia Simpson Miller.

PSOJ

"The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) sincerely congratulates Minister Portia Simpson Miller on her election to the position of leader of the People's National Party.

Her victory reflects her popularity with the people of Jamaica and we have no doubt that she will bring her own inimitable leadership style to the position ... The PSOJ stands ready to work with Minister Simpson Miller and to lend our support to initiatives and endeavours which will lead to a vibrant private sector and ultimately a strong and united Jamaica. We anticipate the appointment of a new Cabinet and encourage all concerned to re-focus their energies on the issues and challenges of governing the country."

JMA

"The Jamaica Manufacturers Association (JMA) congratulates the People's National Party (PNP) president-elect and Prime Minister designate, Minister Portia Simpson Miller on her victory

As quoted in a recent article Mrs. Simpson Miller's goals for Jamaica include developing growth strategies for large and small businesses, encouraging private sector government partnerships to prepare businesses to compete in the global environment and implementing a comprehensive crime plan. We are heartened with her focus on the competitiveness of businesses as we seek to compete in the ever-changing global market place."

JEF

As Prime Minister designate, the Jamaica Employers' Federation (JEF) is of the view that Minister Simpson Miller will be quite capable and very successful in mobilising Jamaicans at all levels of society to buy into the vision of national growth and development.

JEF reassures the Minister that the Federation and its resources continue to be available as part and parcel of this process.
