Santos, August Town in Super League showdown
published: Saturday | March 11, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

SANTOS AND August Town will clash in the feature game as the Jamaica National/Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League continues today.

Both Santos and August Town are in second and third positions respectively on 25 points and are five points adrift of leaders Meadhaven United.

Both teams will be seeking maximum points to keep in touch after dropping points last week. Santos lost to Rae Town 1-0, while August Town drew 1-1 with the JDF.

With Meadhaven expected to get the better of Barbican, both Santos and August Town will find it hard to keep pace with the leader as they could cut each other's throat.

The last time Santos and August Town met, they played out a tame 0-0 draw in December.

Leaders Meadhaven on 30 points and fresh from their 3-0 trouncing of Mountain View, should continue their impressive run with another victory over Barbican.

In December, both teams played to a 0-0 draw but the youthful Meadhaven team has since found another gear and should prove too much for Barbican.

TRICKY TRIP

Maverley/Hughenden, on 24 points in joint fourth position, face a tricky trip to the Bull Pen against an underachieving Bull Bay aggregation. Maverley won the first encounter 1-0 but will find a dangerous Bull Bay lying perilously close to the bottom on 13 points.

Police National sitting on 24 points, could climb up the ladder with a win over Mountain View as the second and third placed teams play each other. Police National, promoted from the Major League this season, will want to maintain their superiority over Mountain View after winning the first clash 3-1 and could find themselves in second position.

Sixth-placed team JDF on 21 points should ambush the struggling Greenwich Town and capture maximum points. However, Greenwich Town on 11 points, with only cellar team Shortwood behind, are steering relegation in the face and could prove dangerous.

Meanwhile Rae Town, fresh from their 1-0 upset win over Santos, should condemn relegation favourites Shortwood to yet another defeat. Shortwood are rooted to the bottom of the standings on four points and should not be motivated enough to offer any serious resistance to Rae Town on 14 points. However the last time both teams met, Shortwood won 3-1 in December.
