ROTI FANS, don't miss this opportunity to sample eight different rotis: curried goat, curried mango, curried potatoes, dhal, curried chicken, ackee and saltfish, aloo choka (mashed potato), as well as authentic North Indian dishes that will be showcased at the Roti Food Festival.
The second staging of the festival will take place on Sunday, March 26 at Club India, 38 Lady Musgrave Road, St. Andrew. Organised by the National Council for Indian Culture in Jamaica (NCICJ) the festival is expected to run from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The organisers have promised that this year's festival will be better organised and that there will be ample helpings of roti.
"Last year we ran out of food but this year we are better prepared. There will be at least eight to 10 persons making rotis, on spot, against the two who were present last year," Vishu Tolan, chairman of the Roti Festival and vice-chairman of the NCICJ, told Food. The organisers are hoping to provide approximately 5,000 rotis by noon.
Food stalls with a variety of Indian dishes for sale will also be a new addition at this year's staging. "When patrons buy a meal they will get a roti, but if they want to take home rotis they have the opportunity to purchase their desired amount at the various food stalls," says Mr. Tolan.
Other activities planned for the festival are roti-making demonstrations, roti-eating contests and entertainment such as henna painting.
