Twenty/20 bowls off in St Elizabeth tomorrow
published: Saturday | March 18, 2006

A DIFFERENT flavour, the Twenty/20 style, will be added to this year's Intown SuperSave/ Uprising Cricket season in southeast St. Elizabeth.

Apart from the regular 35-Overs competition, the organising committee, headed by Lennox Simpson, has decided to add a little more excitement to the communities' regular entertainment.

"We realised that the cricket wanted more excitement," Simpson said.

"Most people come to the cricket about 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on a Sunday and with this latest addition where two games will be played at a venue, spectators will be able to see an entire game," he said.

"And there is no doubt that the world is going Twenty/20."

The Twenty/20 competition is set to bowl off tomorrow with two matches at Uprising Sports Club.

Todd Town face Chocolate Hole in the first match at 10:30 a.m. before Uprising take on Littiz South Ridge.

The matches will preceded by the opening ceremony, which is set for 10:00 a.m. Sponsors Intown will be presenting their sponsorship cheque of $175,000.

Twelve teams, Uprising, Littiz South Ridge, Todd Town, Chocolate Hole, All Century, Uprising Star, Lovers' Leap, Cheapside, Right Vibes, Ballards Valley, Dalton and Top Hill, will take part.

Comma Pen will not be playing in this year's competition. The competition will be played on a knockout basic.

The champions of the Twenty/20 event will walk away with $25,000; second will get $15,000 and third $5,000.

Uprising will be providing the balls for the competition.

The third-place match and final are set for Easter Sunday, April 16.

Meanwhile, the 35-Overs competition will bowl off immediately after the Twenty/20 event.

The same 12 teams are registered.

The winners of the league will walk away with $70,000 with the second-place team getting $35,000.

This final will be played in coloured clothing.
