BERMUDA: Blair's wife to assist in trial?
published: Wednesday | March 22, 2006

HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC):

THE FATHER of a murdered Canadian teenager says Cherie Booth, wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, has agreed to assist in the efforts to launch a private prosecution if Bermudian prosecutors refuse to re-open the 10-year-old case.

David Middleton, the father of the murdered teenager, Rebecca, said that Mrs. Booth had been sent documents by a family friend.

"She's looking over the facts of the matter, to see if Rebecca's human rights have been violated. She's not our first choice, but she's famous. She's high-profile. She has agreed to assist," he said.

Director of Public Prosecutions Vinette Graham-Allen is reviewing the case and could decide to pursue alternative charges after no one was found guilty of killing Rebecca in 1996.
