THE JAMAICA Gasolene Retailers Association (JGRA) has obtained an injunction forcing Esso Standard Oils, the marketing company, to comply with an agreement signed between the entities in November last year.
The injunction also requires that Esso withdraw an eviction notice served on Anthony Mah-Lee, an Esso retailer located in Harbour View, St. Andrew.
According to JGRA President Trevor Heaven, the injunction was granted by the courts on Friday to secure the position of the retailers association. He said the organisation believes that Esso has been uncooperative and has continued to victimise its retailers.
Brian McFarlane, Esso's sales manager, said the marketing company would not comment until its lawyers had reviewed the document.
Prior to a meeting last Friday with Phillip Paulwell, Minister of Commerce, Science and Technology, and Horace Dalley, Minister of Labour and Social Security, the JGRA had suspended a possible islandwide shutdown of petrol stations in response to a dispute over the pricing strategy set by Esso.
Following the meeting, it was agreed that Esso would retract the termination notice served on Mr. Mah-Lee, affording him a six-month trial period.
