THE MEDICAL Association of Jamaica (MAJ) is investigating the fracas which occurred between the president of the Nursing Association of Jamaica (NAJ) and two medical doctors at the Black River Hospital, St. Elizabeth, recently.
"A select committee of our executive has been authorised to investigate this incident and the outcome of their investigation will inform any further action," said Dr. Alverston Bailey, president of the MAJ.
Last week, Edith Allwood-Anderson, president of the NAJ, reported that she was verbally abused by a doctor at the hospital after she had gone there to investigate nursing practices. The NAJ had demanded that an enquiry be conducted into the incident.
Mrs. Allwood-Anderson said she and the first vice-president of the NAJ were prevented from talking to nurses after the doctor ordered them to leave.
She said the doctor hurled abuses at her, then summoned security personnel who attempted to remove forcefully the NAJ members from the premises. This, she said, happened in the clear view of patients and visitors.
The president had recommended that the doctor be taken off front-line duty.
