THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS instructive that there are no resorts on top of Grand Teto peak (U.S.), none on the banks of Loch Ness (Scotland) and none on top of Roraima (Guyana). These well-known places share at least one major quality - they are blessed with stunning, pristine beauty. So too our Blue Mountains, part of the John Crow/Blue Mountain watershed.
The suggestion that a resort of any kind should be built on Blue Mountain Peak is absolutely preposterous. The peak must be enjoyed by succeeding generations in its rustic, rural, rough and resplendent conditon - untouched.
Government has a duty to legislate the prohibition of all forms of construction in such places. Even the cell tower is a form of desecration - but the public was not informed of the intrusion, nor of the Govern-ment's intention to grant permission for such develop-ments in this area.
A resounding 'no' to all those who want to have cesspools on the north coast, cesspools on the south coast and cesspools on Blue Mountain Peak. The peak is its own attraction, for all the people - not only for those who can afford to build on its slopes. Not one zinc nail!
