Meadhaven, Police match skills in feature
published: Saturday | April 1, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

LEADERS MEADHAVEN host third-placed Police National in the feature Jamaica National/ KSAFA Super League game at Campion College this afternoon.

In the other encounters, Bull Bay travel to Barbican; Mountain View welcome Santos; Shortwood versus Jamaica Defence Force (JDF); August Town take on Maverley-Hughenden and Greenwich Town tackle Rae Town.

Last week, the form book went through the window as most of the top teams suffered defeats which allowed August Town to jump into second position.

Meadhaven lost 1-0 to Bull Bay, Santos crashed 3-0 to Police National and Maverley went down 2-0 to Barbican.

Meadhaven on 32 points, are just six points clear of fifth-placed team Maverley/ Hughenden, and can't afford to slip up anymore.

Today, they take on the improving Police National in third place on 30 points in a crucial encounter which can go anyway.

If past performances count for anything, then Police National are in good stead. In their only previous meeting, in January, Police clipped Meadhaven 1-0.

Second-placed August Town on 31 points take on fifth-placed Maverley/Hughenden on 26 points and could put their home advantage to good use.

However, Maverley are keen on returning to winning ways and will be hard to deny. The last time both teams met Maverley squeezed out a 1-0 win.

PREMIER LEAGUE PROMOTION

The Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis-coached Santos should also return to winning ways in their quest for premier league promotion. Santos are on 29 points in fourth position and should get the better of seventh-placed Mountain View and stay in touch with the leaders.

The Barbican/Bull Bay encounter can go either way, but the relegation-threatened Bull Bay will be most dangerous and hungrier. Bull Bay are second from bottom on 18 points, but have the teams above them in their sights as only four points separate them from the seventh place team.

Sixth-placed Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), on 22 points, should secure their sixth win of the season against the relegated Shortwood United, on four points with nothing to play for.

Meanwhile, the Greenwich Town/Rae Town clash could go either way with both teams perilously close to the relegation zone.
