READY TO SERVE - Workable Cabinet say industry leaders
published: Sunday | April 2, 2006

Portia Simpson Miller, Defence, Sports, Women's Affairs

Tyrone Reid, Staff Reporter

NEWLY-APPOINTED Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, yesterday called on the church community to form an alliance with her administration.

In addition, she said she would be instructing Cabinet ministers to appoint the clergy on every board to promote probity and transparency.

"... Every board ... must have a pastor, either as chairman or as a member of the board to ensure probity," the Prime Minister told the congregation of the Osbourne Road-based Kencot Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church during a visit yesterday.

She told The Sunday Gleaner that it is her belief that the Government "should involve the churches in what we do."

WILL OF THE ALMIGHTY

"I am taking the Church seriously. I hope the churches will take the Government seriously, because I could not have become Prime Minister if it was not the will of the Almighty," she stressed to rousing 'Amens'.

"I want the churches to understand that you have to open up your arms to embrace your leaders," she added.
