ON MARCH 18, scores of well-wishers gathered on the lawns of Jake's Hotel in St. Elizabeth to celebrate the union of Nelson Christian Stokes and Kayon Elizabeth Smith under the theme 'L'Elegance Romantique de la Boheme'.
Nelson Stokes is the son of former Gleaner Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Dudley Stokes, and consultant/businesswoman, Dr. Blossom O'Meally Nelson. He is also the younger brother of Jamaican bobsleigh personality Dudley Junior (Tal) Stokes. Kayon Smith-Stokes is the daughter of bodybuilder Carmi Smith.
VIBRANT COLOURS
Styled by Elegant Weddings, the event, which featured vibrant greens and oranges complete with bohemian-inspired canopies, throw pillows and candles, began at 4:00 p.m. with afternoon cocktails.
After relaxing on the lawns close to the main entrance, the guests were then invited to the nuptials/reception area for the commencement of the ceremony. Just moments before the sun began to dip below the horizon - the wedding party emerged.
Adorned in a custom-made silk Nehru jacket with black silk trousers, Nelson Stokes was the picture of happiness as he strode sure-footedly down the aisle to await his bride.
Moments later, the bridal party, inclusive of Christian's daughter, Na-Talia Stokes, strolled down the candlelit walkway - signalling the entry of the bride.
CAROLINA HERRERA ENSEMBLE
The picture of serenity, she wore a stunning Carolina Herrera ensemble, emerging on the arm of her smiling father, her eyes locked on to her waiting husband-to-be.
The exchange of vows was officiated by ministers David Glover and Roy Gordon.
Highlights of the Elegant Weddings-coordinated event were the presentation of a silver locket to young Na-Talia Stokes, a sand ceremony and a tribute to the bride's mother, Joyce Powell.
