A little bird, he told me so
He said come on, get on the go
Open your eyes the sky is full of butterflies
The blossoms on the trees stir up the honey bees
Spring makes my fever right
Spring fever, Spring is here at last
Spring fever, my heart's beating fast
Get up, get out spring is everywhere
- Spring Fever by Elvis Presley.
ACCORDING TO answers.com, "Spring fever is a feeling of languor or yearning brought on by the coming of spring". Of particular interest is the notion of "yearning."
It has long been held that the onset of spring time brings a stirring in the loins that was dormant during the winter. Spring time, and consequently spring fever, officially began with the vernal equinox on March 20 this year, when the sun passed directly over the earth's equator.
How is this significant to your relationships and sex life, you ask? Well, studies claim that the light changes brought about by the equinox explain the newfound urge to copulate more frequently. This urge dies down as the seasons change from summer to autumn, where illumination of the earth by the sun decreases. Long before man had such deep appreciation for astrology and astronomy, the connection between spring time and man's libido was established.
The early Pagans celebrated spring as a time of fertility and rebirth, and would give offerings to their gods as they sought their blessings in those respects. The story of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, and her lover Adonis, is centred upon the advent of spring, when Aphrodite was reunited with her lover, only to be once again separated from him in winter.
Further, the astrological calendar begins with the vernal equinox on either March 20 or March 21; and the first astrological sign is the ram. When this sign is 'ruling' so to speak, people, and animals too, experience a peak in their sex drive.
Still, is 'spring fever' a real phenomenon? It has not yet been scientifically proven, but while some speculate and others investigate, feel free to blame the sudden urge to 'wuk up yuh waist' in carnival on 'spring fever'. Use this as an opportunity to boost a flailing relationship, or to initiate a new one. Even if it is just another excuse, take advantage of it, your partner will be delighted.
